About
My name is Hilary.

I’m a thirty-something city girl who used to be an executive assistant in a past life. These days, I’m a stay-at-home mama and wife and I use my organizational skills to parent our two kids, run the household and manage our budget.
In February 2012, we bought our dream home.

It’s a 1500 square foot 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom townhouse that takes up the entire first floor of a century-old Edwardian in the loveliest neighborhood in San Francisco. Our new home small, but very charming. It’s perfect for our little family and I love it.
But getting here was not so easy. In order to purchase said dream home, my husband and I cleaned out our savings accounts and took out a hefty mortgage. And with only my husband’s income to support us, we’ve had to seriously cut back our expenses and make every dollar stretch.
Was it worth it? Definitely. Our kids get to grow up in the very best neighborhood, everything we need is within walking distance, and I’ve never in my life lived anywhere that’s felt more like home.
That said, I’ve got my work cut out for me. This family is now on a ridiculously tight budget and we’re pinching our pennies in every possible way. I’m simplifying, minimizing, reducing, reusing, repurposing and DIY-ing as much as I can. I clip coupons, cloth diaper, prepare (just about) all our food from scratch and the only paper product we buy around here is toilet paper. And that’s just the beginning.
I recently realized that, with a little creativity and time, there’s not a whole lot I can’t do, make, organize or fix myself. Because time equals money. And every penny counts. It really does all add up. This homemaking thing is truly a fine, fine art.
